What We Do
Seven programs across education, health, governance, peacebuilding, and environmental conservation, each co-designed with the young people and communities of Kwale County.
Peacebuilding & Culture
Atsi Similani is a community-led peacebuilding initiative that revives traditional cultural dialogue by bringing together young people, elders, women, and community leaders to strengthen social cohesion and peaceful coexistence. Rooted in indigenous knowledge and local customs, the program creates safe and inclusive spaces for intergenerational dialogue, conflict resolution, cultural exchange, and community peace forums. By empowering youth as ambassadors of peace while drawing on the wisdom of elders, Atsi Similani promotes mutual understanding, preserves cultural values, prevents violence, and builds resilient, united communities.
Environment & Conservation
IMARA is an indigenous knowledge-driven environmental conservation initiative dedicated to restoring, protecting, and sustainably managing Kaya forests and other ecologically significant landscapes. The program brings together Kaya elders, youth, women, schools, and local communities to combine traditional ecological knowledge with modern conservation practices through environmental education, ecosystem restoration, cultural heritage preservation, and community advocacy. IMARA strengthens climate resilience, protects biodiversity, and safeguards Kenya's rich indigenous environmental heritage for future generations.
Governance & Civic Engagement
INUA-IG is a governance and civic engagement initiative that empowers young people, young women, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) to actively participate in democratic processes and community decision-making. Through civic education, leadership development, policy advocacy, digital governance, public participation, and social accountability initiatives, the program promotes inclusive governance, amplifies marginalized voices, and strengthens transparency, accountability, and responsive leadership.
Gender & GBV
My Girl Is Safe Initiative is a girl-led advocacy and empowerment program committed to advancing the rights, health, and well-being of adolescent girls through policy advocacy and community outreach. The initiative promotes Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), prevents and responds to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), and raises awareness of mental health while providing mentorship, safe spaces, life skills, and leadership opportunities that empower girls to make informed decisions and thrive in safe, inclusive environments.
Health & Family
Positive Parenting Initiative is a community-based family strengthening program that promotes responsible, nurturing, and inclusive parenting among young parents, adolescent mothers, and caregivers. Through parenting education, mentorship, psychosocial support, mental health promotion, SRHR awareness, and community dialogue, the initiative equips families with the knowledge and skills needed to create safe, healthy, and supportive environments where children can grow, learn, and reach their full potential.
Education
Students Mentorship Program is an education and youth empowerment initiative that promotes academic excellence, personal development, leadership, and a 100% transition of learners through the education system. Through career guidance, life skills training, mentorship, leadership forums, debate competitions, motivational talks, and academic support, the program equips students with the confidence, knowledge, and skills needed to succeed in school and become responsible, productive citizens.
Peacebuilding & Elections
Amani Kwanza Program is a youth-centered peacebuilding and electoral violence prevention initiative that empowers young people to become ambassadors of peace before, during, and after electoral processes. Through civic education, peacebuilding training, mediation, community dialogue, voter education, mentorship, media engagement, and grassroots peace campaigns, the program promotes peaceful democratic participation, counters hate speech and misinformation, and strengthens social cohesion to foster stable, inclusive, and resilient communities.
Every program relies on partners, volunteers, and donors who believe in Kwale County's young people. Reach out and let's talk about where you can help most.
